Bengaluru Torpedoes opens Volleyball Academy at Padukone Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence


Bengaluru, 2nd December 2023— Bengaluru Torpedoes, in collaboration with the Padukone Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, opened their state-of-the-art volleyball academy, dedicated to providing world-class training to aspiring athletes from a very young age.  The Bengaluru Torpedoes Volleyball Academy was launched with pomp and prestige by Brazilian volleyball giants, Club Itambe Minas. With an illustrious history boasting nine national titles, Club Itambe Minas is set to leave an everlasting impact on the Indian volleyball scene. Club Itambe Minas are currently in Bengaluru to compete in Men's Volleyball Club World Championships 2023, scheduled to commence from the 6th of December. 

This initiative is set to revolutionize the landscape of volleyball coaching in the country. This facility will be more than just a training ground for future stars; it will be a vibrant hub welcoming individuals of all ages and backgrounds who share a passion for volleyball and seek structured coaching. 

Following their training session, Itambe Minas's Austin Jack Wilmot lauded the facility. "This is a very high-quality court, and we have found the facilities here to be world-class. We are looking forward to training here for the next few days as we get ready for the tournament ", he said. 

The academy's commitment to excellence extends beyond borders with the appointment of a distinguished foreign coach who will spearhead the program. Drawing from international expertise, the academy aims to nurture the raw talent of young athletes, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to compete at the highest levels of the sport. 

Vivek Kumar, founder, and promoter of the Padukone Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, expressed his excitement about the collaborative venture, stating, "We are proud to partner with Bengaluru Torpedoes in establishing a volleyball academy that not only meets but exceeds global standards. Our shared vision is to create an environment that fosters talent, dedication, and sportsmanship from a young age. Through this academy, we hope to unearth the future stars of Indian volleyball."

We believe this academy will provide the next generation of players with the skills and opportunities they need to excel on the national and international stage. It will help kids who are picking up the sport for the first time mould and hone their skills through structured coaching programs.” 

The Bengaluru Torpedoes Volleyball Academy is poised to be the first of its kind, the academy facility will not only serve as a training ground for aspiring talents but will also become the official home for the Bengaluru Torpedoes' first team. Coached by the legendary Olympic medallist, David Lee, the team recently emerged as runners-up in the Prime Volleyball League. Lee's invaluable experience and guidance will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the academy and elevate the standard of volleyball in the region. This landmark initiative underscores the commitment of Bengaluru Torpedoes and the Padukone Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence to contribute significantly to the growth and development of volleyball in India.
