The much awaited “Annual One-Act Programme in English and Hindi was staged by enthusiastic students of Class V of the Junior Section of St. Xavier’s School, Doranda, Ranchi on the evening of 27th January, 2024.
The choir set the mood to the glittering evening through their mellifluous rendition of “Alone. We all need that someone….”.
The Principal of the School, Fr. Ignatius Lakra S.J in his welcome address reiterated the School’s inherent philosophy of imparting a holistic education, where co-curricular activities in addition to academics played a significant role in the shaping and development of a child’s persona and drew light on the wonderful achievements of the school in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. He thanked the parents for their continuous support and appreciated the effort andhard work put in by the students and teachers for the successful rendition of the One-Act Plays.
The Chief Guest, Mr Anil Palta, IPS appreciated and thanked the Management and teachers for providing a platform for the students to develop and express their innate talents. Praising the young artistes, he encouraged the children to be sincere students and grab every opportunity to follow their dreams.
The English play, ‘The Happy Prince’ written by Oscar Wilde held the audience captivated by their true-to-life portrayal of the different characters. The young, talented actors effortlessly brought out the irony in the story about a Prince who was more sad than happy. The powerful story reminded us that we can still hope that people can still be kind and compassionate towards one another.
The Hindi play, ‘Udaan’ vividly delved into a topic that’s controversial and yet relevant to our evolving societal norms depicted the complexity of family relationships, ethics and attitudes. The young actors brought out the essence of the challenges confronting ‘gender discrimination’ in a family.
The exciting stage performance, complemented by colourful costumes, props and flawless delivery of dialogues carried everyone on an enchanting and wonderous journey of the two One Act Plays. They made everyone ride a roller coaster of emotions and gave hope to make one’s tiny corner of the world a better place to live.
The colourful dance recitals, ‘Choona Hai Aasman….’ And ‘Try Everything….’ were presented by students of classes 3 and 4, much to the delight of the audience. They also enthralled the audience with the melodious rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up…’
Fr. Roshan Bage S.J, Vice-Principal Junior Section, in his ‘vote of thanks’, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and other dignitaries for their gracious presence. He said that the successful execution of the programme was largely due to the inspiration and support provided by Fr. Ignatius Lakra, Principal, Fr. Florence, Fr. Ravi Bhushan, Fr. Ajay, Mrs. Sunaina Subarna (Co-ordinator, Jr. Sec) the teamwork of the teachers, the dedicated efforts of the students of Classes III to V and the enthusiasm of the Masters of Ceremony. He thanked the Director Mr. Deepak Sinha and the choreographer Mr. Chiru, for training the students with love and patience.
He wholeheartedly acknowledged the contribution of Mrs. Bibiyana Soreng (in-charge Hindi play), Mrs. Mousumi Kar (in-charge English play) and each and every teacher for working tirelessly toward the successful rendition of the plays.
