With an aim to converge the efforts of various departments in fighting child labour and further intensify their fight against this menace, Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, held consultations with various departments in Rajasthan government on Child Labour and Rehabilitation of rescued children.
The consultation held in collaboration with Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (RSCPCR), had senior officials Labour Department, Education department, Rajasthan Police and Department of Child Rights, Rajasthan along with the representatives of civil society to discuss further plans of action for the eradication of child labour and rehabilitation of the rescued children.
Every year, June 12 is marked as the World Day against Child Labour across the world. Bachpan Bachao Andolan, along with other departments, is geared up to celebrate June as the action month when it plans to leave no stone unturned in its mission to make Rajasthan child labour free. The month will be celebrated strongly across the state with a special focus on the rescue and rehabilitation of child labourers in the state. This consultation is a huge step in the direction and the joint efforts with all the departments will surely give a huge push to the process. The state consultation will help in ensuring proper implementation of the State Action Plan for Child Labour bringing convergence among all the department.
“To ensure that child labour is eradicated completely and each child is protected, we need joint efforts of all the departments and teams. We now need to make sure that work is done on grass roots level and there has to be a district level monitoring in place to eradicate child labour from the society,” Sangeeta Beniwal, Chairperson, RSCPCR, said during the consultation that was attended by over 70 officials and representatives from various departments in the state.
Appreciating the move by the state government in their mission to make Rajasthan child labour free, Dhananjay Tingal, Executive Director, BBA, said, “As per the SDG goal, child labour needs to be eradicated by 2025 and all departments and civil society organizations need to come together to end the menace. On this, Rajasthan government has a very positive response and the government is putting their efforts to make Rajasthan a child labour free state.”
Meanwhile, Sitaram Bhale, Secretary, Labour Department, Government of Rajasthan, also present during the consultation echoed similar sentiments and said, “For the complete eradication of child labour, such joint effort is very important. This meeting is especially going to be very fruitful because it has the attendance of all the important officials from different departments.”
He further said that to ensure that the labour inspectors are thorough with their roles and responsibilities, there needs to be a training session for them on a quarterly basis.
Meanwhile, the senior officials of the police department informed about the various initiatives taken by the police in child trafficking and child labour cases in the state.
