Fit India Movement @ IIM Ranchi :: Fitness ka Dose aadha ghanta har Roz.

IIM Ranchi celebrated Fit India Movement with the theme “ Fitness ka Dose aadha ghanta har Roz”. Under the fit India campaign, various activities e were organised like Walkathon / Running, yoga session, exercises on treadmill / mini gym.

Prof. Shailendra Singh, Director, IIM Ranchi addressed the faculty, students and staff who were present physically and connected through virtual mode on the closing ceremony of Fit India Movement and said “ Breathing is directly proportional to longevity”. He quoted the example of tortoise lifespan of 150 years and said that if we can take things slow in life especially breathing  then we can live longer and healthier. He further added that we should show gratitute for whatever we have achived in life and create our own social support sytem by helping others and feel gratified in life.

Prof.G Naresh talked about three main divisions of yoga practice: astanga-yoga, jnana-yoga, and bhakti-yoga mentioned in Bhagwat Gita.He also dicussed about Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, the eightfold path is called ashtanga, which literally means "eight limbs" (ashta=eight, anga=limb). These eight steps basically act as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. These eight eightfold path consists of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi. He also conducted a small mediation session to make the audience understand that a small meditative breaks can lead to better results in life and also at work.

Prof Angshuman Hazarika said that sports should be integrated with studies and traiditional sports like Kabbadi and Kho needs to be commercialised. He also suggested the ways of promoting sports biographies just like “Queen Gambit” on Netflix. Sports should be taken as recreational activity and should be taken up by people of all ages, he further added.
